We are delighted to be supporting visual artist, Akeelah Bertram, and her Light Night Leeds immersive installation, Ultiverse.

Drawing on voices past and present, Ultiverse immerses you in waves of light and sound. Step into an abstract world where meaning is derived from the many. Ultiverse responds to bodies and movement with a collective experience. The installation will run at Light Night Leeds 2018 on Friday 5th October, 6-10pm at the Tetley, Leeds. There will also be scheduled performances on the hour from 6–10pm with GCF Creative Associate Artists, Zodwa Nyoni and Akeim Toussaint Buck; composer Aron Kyne and vocalist Thabo Mkwananzi.

This project has been made possible through support from the Geraldine Connor Foundation, Arts Council England, the Aziz Foundation, East Street Arts and The Tetley.

How can you get involved?

Akeelah will be developing the installation through a series of workshops and residency weeks. She will be hosting a writing workshop on Wednesday 29th August 2019, which is open to all. Participants in the writing workshop will experience in progress elements of Ultiverse and work with writing collaborator Zodwa Nyoni to explore themes of other, home and unfamiliar. Participants will have the opportunity to contribute audio recordings to be used as part of the performance at The Tetley in October. To register for this free workshop, click here.

Akeelah and her team are also looking for nine youth residents to take part in a performance residency in September. Primarily, they are looking for participants who speak an additional language to English or who identify as having a migration background. To find out more about this exciting opportunity, please email Akeelah akeelahbertram@gmail.com.
